Unlike metal smokers, external weather influences have virtually no effect on what happens inside the Green Egg and no extra moisture needs to be added.
The compact size of the Big Green Egg MiniMax makes it an excellent addition to any kitchen, as a balcony already offers enough space for the MiniMax. How do you light a Big Green Egg MiniMax?
To light the Big Green Egg MiniMax, fill the Fire Box to the brim with charcoal. The Fire Box can be recognised at the bottom of the interior of the Big Green Egg MiniMax as a thickening of the ceramic wall (not to be confused with the second thickening higher up in the MiniMax: this is the Fire Ring which creates distance between the grid and the fuel). Preferably use somewhat larger pieces of charcoal and avoid using briquettes, among other things. Next, open the Draft Door at the bottom of the exterior of the Big Green Egg MiniMax.
Light the charcoal using kindling wool, for example, and once the charcoal glows nicely, you can start cooking. Use the rEGGulator or other type of cap on the top of the lid and the Draft Door on the bottom to regulate temperature.
What can you cook on the Big Green Egg MiniMax?
The Big Green Egg MiniMax is suitable for preparing meals for four to six people. This gives the MiniMax the same capacity as the larger Big Green Egg Small. However, the MiniMax is slightly lower in height for mobility reasons, leaving slightly less room for dishes that need height.
On the Big Green Egg MiniMax, you can cook practically everything that can be done on the bigger models: from flammküchen to smoked salmon, but in a more compact size. The possibilities are endless for grilling, smoking, slow cooking, baking and stewing.
